The McLaren Formula 1 Team returns to the Sepang International Circuit this weekend as Formula 1 makes its return to Malaysia for the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix. This will be the first Formula 1 race at Sepang since 2017, bringing the races back to one of its most recognizable circuits.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will represent McLaren at the 3.444 mile circuit, which features 15 corners and 56 laps. The track combines long straights, high-speed sections and sharp corners, creating a unique challenge for both drivers and teams.

Sepang originally joined the calendar in 1999 and hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix through 2017. Its return provides fans with another chance to experience Formula 1 racing in Malaysia, after the Bahrain Grand Prix was moved from its original venue.
The climate will also be an important role throughout the weekend. High temperatures and humidity are expected, while the area’s unpredictable weather can bring rain showers and thunderstorms with little warning. The teams will need to be prepared for changing track conditions throughout the weekend.
Neither Norris nor Piastri has raced at Sepang before, making preparation especially important. The team has used simulator sessions to help both drivers become familiar with the circuit and prepare for the challenges they will face.

McLaren also has a history at Sepang. Kimi Räikkönen earned the team’s first victory at the circuit in 2003, while Fernando Alonso won for McLaren in 2007.
The Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m., with the race covering 56 laps. Following Malaysia, the Formula 1 calendar moves to Singapore for the next race on Oct. 9-11.
